A luxury house that happens to plan weddings
The Atelier

For eighteen years we have composed the most important day in a family's history — and composed it as heritage, designed to be remembered for generations.

The Founder’s Story

Maharaja Weddings began, as the best things often do, with a refusal. In 2007, Devika Rathore was a young set designer working in Bombay's film industry when a family friend asked her to design their daughter's wedding. She agreed on one condition: that she would not be allowed to make it look like every other wedding she had seen. She built a world instead of a stage. The family wept. The phone did not stop ringing for a year.

Devika had trained her eye on film sets, where a single evening's illusion has to be flawless because there are no second takes. She brought that discipline — and that refusal to be generic — to an industry she felt had grown lazy with repetition. Where others saw a checklist of functions, she saw a once-in-a-lifetime production. Where others rented the same drapes twice, she commissioned worlds that would exist for one family and never again.

Eighteen years later, the atelier she built has produced more than seven hundred and fifty weddings across fifty destinations, from the floating palaces of Udaipur to the marble terraces of Lake Como. It has earned the trust of business dynasties, the discretion of the famous, and standing relationships with the custodians of India's most guarded heritage venues. And it is still, at its heart, run on Devika's original condition: that no wedding we touch should ever look like it could have belonged to anyone else.

“No wedding we touch should ever look like it could have belonged to anyone else.”

Our Vision

We do not plan weddings. We compose the single most important day in a family's history — and we compose it as heritage, designed to be remembered for generations.

Every family that comes to us is, whether they know it or not, asking the same thing: make this matter. Make it worthy of the love that occasioned it, the heritage that shaped it, and the generations who will inherit its memory. That is the brief beneath every brief, and it is the only one we ultimately answer to.

We believe luxury is not excess but precision — the right thing, made beautifully, for these particular people, in this particular place, once. We believe the highest form of service is invisibility. And we believe a wedding, done correctly, is not an event that ends but an heirloom that begins.

What We Believe

01

Bespoke, Without Exception

Nothing we make is made twice. Every wedding begins from a blank page and the singular story of one family. We would rather build a world from scratch than reach for one that has worked before.

02

Discretion as Default

Some of our finest work has never been seen, and never will be. We hold our families' privacy as carefully as their celebrations, and we measure our reputation in the trust of people who never publish a word about us.

03

The Invisible Hand

You should never see us work. The highest compliment our production can earn is that a family felt only the celebration — and never, for a single moment, the immense machinery holding it aloft.

04

Reverence for Heritage

We are entrusted with monuments four centuries old and traditions far older. We treat both as borrowed from the future, to be returned undiminished and a little more loved than we found them.

05

Craft Over Catalogue

We commission rather than rent, fabricate rather than furnish, and collaborate with artisans whose hands carry generations of skill. The difference is felt in every detail, even the ones no one consciously notices.

06

The Family, First

Behind every wedding is a family navigating one of the most emotional passages of its life. We hold that human truth at the centre of everything, long after the last guest has gone home.

Our Story in Time

2007

The First Refusal

Devika Rathore designs a single wedding on the condition it look like no other. The atelier is born in a one-room Bombay studio.

2011

The Palaces Open

Our first wedding inside the City Palace of Udaipur begins the standing heritage relationships that define us to this day.

2014

Across the Water

Our first international production, on Lake Como, proves an Indian wedding can travel without losing its soul. The destinations division is founded.

2017

The Closed Set

We formalise our discretion protocol after a decade of quiet work for public figures, building the closed-set model we still use.

2020

The Atelier Reimagined

Through the industry's hardest year, we build our in-house design studio and production workshop — commissioning, no longer renting.

2025

Seven Hundred & Fifty

Our 750th wedding is produced in Udaipur. Eighteen years on, the original condition remains unbroken: no two have ever looked alike.

Meet the Atelier
